The award-winning 'Our Global Partnerships' programme aims to explain Rio Tinto's biodiversity strategies and its commitment to forging partnerships with scientific researchers to bring the best solutions to issues of sustainability and environmental regeneration at mine sites across the world. From the Royal Botanical Gardens and the Eden Project in the UK, via Birdlife South Africa to the Australian Museum in Sydney, Rio Tinto is working with the world's experts to document and replenish flora, wildlife and indigenous species that are found in some of their most remote and environmentally fragile sites. The partnerships it is forging today will ultimately help to secure the future of some of the world's most endangered species, and is a new way for these organisations to work with industry.
The programme was put together with footage taken from several major global shoots undertaken by Jacaranda for Rio Tinto throughout 2005/6. Filming took place in Australia, South Africa and the UK, culminating in a five week South America shoot at the end of 2006 .
This location footage has also been re-versioned for inclusion in two other programmes about Rio Tinto's sustainability concerns and initiatives, 'Our Commitment to Communities' and 'Our Global Environment'.
The footage is also used on an on-going basis in stories for the multi-award winning quarterly video magazine, 'Shared Vision' which is dubbed into 7 language versions. Seen by Rio Tinto's 36,000 employees via webstreaming or DVD, 'Shared Vision' is in its 5th year and has so far won nine International creative awards including a Gold World Medal at the 2007 New York Festivals.
As part of the ongoing global filming process, Jacaranda has developed and maintains a media library for Rio Tinto. The Picture Bank is an on-line facility which manages and distributes digital media within an organisation and chosen third parties, and most importantly makes it very easy to catalogue and re-version footage and stills to maximise use and therefore cost-effectiveness. Rio Tinto’s new corporate image film has been created entirely from footage shot around the world for other programmes which was then catalogued for future re-use.
Jacaranda’s five year relationship with Rio Tinto has resulted in over 20 global creative awards and 60 programmes so far, spanning subjects as diverse as corporate responsibility, health and safety, graduate recruitment, financial results, media relations and corporate image.
Rio Tinto's Cherry DeGeer said of the awards: “We value our relationship with Jacaranda for their production excellence and deep insights into communicating sustainable development issues which lie at the heart of Rio Tinto's business approach. These awards are well deserved and we are delighted to be associated with them."
