Jacaranda has recently completed 14 short films for the COI, on behalf of the Home Office, as part of their current 'Tackling Violent Crime Programme'.
The aim of the DVD is to encourage police forces, health authorities, licensing authorities and local councils around the UK to look at what they can do, particularly by working together, to reduce alcohol-related violence in the night-time economy in their areas.
High profile interviewees, including DAC Chris Allison from the Metropolitan Police, John McNamara from BII and Prof. Iain Hutchison of St Bart's, gave a strategic overview on the scale of the problem. Case studies shot around the UK then highlighted topics such as progressive licensing, data sharing between agencies, taxi marshalling, body-worn video and joint patrols of PCs and paramedics.
The films were showcased at the National Alcohol Conference in November 2007 (organised by the Home Office) and will also be used as a resource facility for stakeholders and various other multi-agency partners of the 'Tackling Violent Crime Programme'.
CI Duncan Slade at the Home Office said: "These films are instrumental in encouraging our stakeholders to share knowledge, develop multi-agency approaches and adopt new ideas. We are delighted with the end results."
Jenny Rose, Producer at Jacaranda says: "The challenge for us on this project was to present the problem of alcohol-related violence in a new light. Everyone is familiar with images of young people binge-drinking and causing trouble in town centres on a Friday night. Our task was to show how co-operation between agencies and innovative thinking is having a positive effect in reducing alcohol-related violence."
