In November Savoy Place hosted the launch of 'Green Strategy 2007', a conference held for businesses responding to climate change, run by Green Business Events.
Aimed
at Heads of Sustainability, Climate Change Response Managers, Environmental
Management, supplier organisations and consultants helping usher in
change, the conference encouraged the debate of the commercial implications
of climate change. It was Jacaranda's heritage of creating, managing
and publishing global visual SR communications for major blue chip
clients which inspired Green Business Events & Jacaranda to form an
associate partnership.
With an abundance of attendees from global organisations and pioneering academic institutions, an engaged audience heard Head of Corporate Responsibility, David Ferguson, EDF Energy, discuss how to reduce emissions and make more money. Head of Sustainable Development, Andy Wales, SAB Miller, opened up the floor to discuss lessons learnt from introducing a sustainable development strategy, with HSBC defending their case for a green strategy and the scope for change.
A panel of open discussions and audience participation continued throughout the day with senior leaders from Sun Micro Systems, Arup, HSBC, Royal Mail and Eurotunnel unearthing the possibilities of achieving environmentally sustainable operations.
Leading the discussions Richard Barrington of Sun Microsystems revealed his formula for reviewing organisational input whilst Head of Group Environment Strategy, Nick Coad, National Express, informed the audience with his standpoint on group wide environmental strategy encouraging 'green ethnicity' and a more incremental approach to both rail and site operations group wide.
The conference concluded with Head of Sustainable Development, Mike Barry, Marks & Spencer, calling for 'green crusaders' to continue to drive change through innovation; encouraging retailers to select green materials from suppliers, produce green electricity from the anaerobic digestion of food waste and to harbour change with introducing the 'plastic shopping-bag economy'.
Gus Colquhoun, Creative Director, Jacaranda says: "Green Strategy 2007 was a formidable forum for the discussion of diverse green issues where challenging debate with some of the most senior figures in the UK evolved. We are delighted to be an associate partner with Green Business Events and look forward to the next event at the end of this year."
Conference organiser Ben Patten says: "This is the first year for Green Strategy 2007 and it was an encouraging turn out. Our partnership with Jacaranda is the obvious match for us in terms of heritage and orientation and we are delighted with the impact that the overall event has had. Here's to 2008!"
